| An important stage in the development of the company was when the Burie firm carried out the layout of the Lille Lesquin airport under the direction of Christian Burie with Mr Robert Delesalle and the architect Jean Pierre Secq. In 1966 the firm was amongst 15 partners selected to construct the first Novotel at Lesquin under the control of Paul Dubrulle and Gérard Pellison, the founders of the Accor group, as well as Jean Pierre Secq, the architect of the project. From this venture a partnership was born, and Burie has since specialised in the layout and refurbishment of communal areas, bedrooms, specific layouts and interior design in the hotel and catering industries.
80% of Novotels in France have been constructed by Burie during the development of the group in Europe, the West Indies, Africa and the Near and Middle East. The firm also works for other trade names and businesses belonging to the Accor group such as Ibis, Mercure, Sofitel, Hôtelia and Pizza del Arte, and has started carrying out construction work for the budget hotel chains Formule 1 and Etap Hotel.
To date across the hotel chains and thanks to the knowledge acquired in this field, the Burie company counts over 1500 examples of work carried out for the hotel industry. Even if it is difficult to detect our presence in markets abroad, in the US in particular, the story of the Burie company deserves to be told as the firm considers itself to be a world leader in its sector.
Some significant dates in our company history:
· In 1992 the firm left its outdated site in Lille to set up in Pérenchies near the motorway to Dunkerque. Its new site has 2500m² of covered workspace over a total area of 7200m², leaving some scope for future development.
· In 1994 Christian Burie decided to sell the firm to two young businessmen, who, over a sensitive period in the company’s history, modernized its structure and prepared for the future by deciding to attract new clients.
· In 1996 the above-mentioned new owners met Luc de Saint Louvent who is native to the area, through the Nord Transmission organization. He has worked in this field since 1984 and had been looking for the opportunity of a progressive take-over in the region.
· In 1997 after a year of technical management ensured by a 50% stake in the company, the final transaction was made and Luc de Saint Louvent took over the general management of the company, thanks to the involvement of members of his family, a friend and a newly employed sales and marketing representative.
Following in the footsteps of Christian Burie, Luc de Saint Louvent maintains an excellent working relationship with the Accor group and is also identified with Envergure. He is also keen to implement the restructuring of the tools for production and training, the introduction of digitally controlled machinery, and the computerization of the research and design office so dealing directly with the workshop.
As the proverb “No-one is a prophet in his own land” goes, the Burie company was only little known if at all to its closest neighbours. Therefore it is on the basis of the focus on attracting new clients that over the last five years the firm has simultaneously succeeded in increasing its production performance.
